The MacRitchie Trails

Today is the first day of holiday!

To celebrate this day, we went to the Top of the trees~
(hehe! finally!)

Invited a lot of friends to join... hmm, in the end, no one is able to make it. All my friends are lazy cats... sleeping and resting are too important to them.
err... is 7:30am that early?
hmm, probably ba...

but well, come on, it is a saturday!! should be more enthusiastic to start a day early! and to loosen up our stiffening bones!

hehe! they dont know what they missed. =)

Tree-top walking isn't as easy as it appears. To get there, where a 250m long free-standing suspension bridge awaits, we have to cover about 7km. Our expedition is not that smooth running; we walked more than 10km, cos we went the wrong way, wasted our energy for 3km. >_<

Who say guy got good sense of direction?

After reaching the bridge, it was another 7km back to the starting point. Such long distance walk (or more, depending on the route choosen, and the sense of direction) for someone (like me) who hardly exercise is no joke. But the desire to be among the tree-tops outweighed the tremendous amount of distance we had to trek.

It was a hot and wet weekend morning, with a few hikers and joggers along the way.
We set off along the Orange route (Venus Link) and embarked on our hike, donned in photo shooting gear and armed with drinking water. But half way through, we realize we didnt bring enough water, we were hungry, thirsty, and tired.... however, the routes to tree top walk is only 1 way, once started the journey, there is no turning back. To back out is not an option.. therefore, we have to carry on, dragging our feets on our way to find the correct direction. Luckily, there are tree shade at the 2 sides of the trail. One good thing about the trail was that the ascent was quite gentle. It took quite an effort on our part, but it wasnt overly taxing. However, after the ranger station, the peirce track was significantly more taxing. As mom and I huffed and puffed our way up, sticky and sweaty, stopped at intervals for breathers and photo taking, i even wonder if we were going to make it!

Our spirits perk up immediately when the huge suspension bridge appeared in front of us. The bridge connect 2 highest points (Bukit Peirce and Bukit Kalang) in MacRitchie. Maybe cos of the rain earlier, we didnt manage to see much unique insects, nor pretty flowers along the way. A bit disappointed, but nvm, we still took quite a few portraits, and scenery on the bridge too~

The mass of greenery that could be seen from here was revitalising. There was a giant tree, where by its trunk and branches was shoulder to shoulder with me. And i was on top of many others too~ We even saw a monkey on the bridge! it was "acrobating" itself on the bridge's rope~ and that create a bit of commotion among the pple~ hehe!!

The suspension bridge was made of sturdy metal and ropes. It swayed slightly from side to side when pple walk on it, and only a maximum of 30 pple were allowed to walk on the bridge at 1 time. haha! quite a soothing experience when crossing the bridge. However, the weather was not so nice; there was no wind and the sun was blazing. I could hardly open my eyes~

On the way back, we were caught in a sudden rain. We brought along 2 umbrellas, but the umbrellas we brought are only big enough to cover either us or our bags. Fortunately, we manage to find shelter within a few meters.

In the evening, we went to Grand Park Royal Plaza hotel for buffet, to feast~~
hohoho!

However, there are 2 side effects from the expedition today: =(
1) aching body for the next few days
2) a much darker, and uneven skin shade which took months to be fair again

Too bad you live so far away.
Otherwise it will be so fun if we could go together. =p
